Germany vs England – Capello puts faith in Slovenian starters

| 27.06.2010

Reports are suggesting that Fabio Capello will name the same starting XI which beat Slovenia 1-0 to clinch England’s place in the last 16.

It is the first time Capello has been able to name an unchanged side and England are 11/2 to win 1-0 again.

The news means Matthew Upson will keep his place at centre-back despite Ledley King and Jamie Carragher returning from injury and suspension respectively. England are 7/4 to keep a clean sheet.

Ominously, of the seven international games the West Ham defender has started with John Terry, England have won all seven. They are 4/5 to go through.

Indeed, the pair started the last time the two old rivals met in Berlin in 2008 and both scored in a 2-1 victory. Upson is 50/1 to score first here, while Terry, who had an effort saved against Slovenia, is 7/1 to net at any time.

Jermain Defoe, who scored the goal which sealed England’s passage out of Group C, will partner Wayne Rooney and the Spurs stiker is 7/1 to score first again.

Will the same team lead to the same result? Jermain Defoe to score first in a 1-0 win is 30/1. See the full Germany v England match betting market.
