Transfer news – Coventry snap up Everton striker Jutkiewicz

Published:

Coventry have continued their summer recruitment drive with the signing of Lukas Jutkiewicz from Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has agreed a three-year deal, and he is priced at 28/1 to be the Championship’s top scorer this season.

Jutkiewicz had been with Everton since 2007 and scored 12 goals during a loan spell with Motherwell last season, including a spectacular volley in the 6-6 draw with Hibernian.

There has been a considerable change in striking personnel at the Ricoh Arena, with Garry McSheffrey and Roy O’Donovan both rejoining the club, and Clinton Morrison leaving for Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfield has also been bolstered by the return of another former Sky Blue, Lee Carsley, who has been made captain and will bring a steeliness to the Coventry midfield.

Boothroyd has had a busy first summer at the club, and his smart acquisitions make Coventry a tempting bet at 14/1 to win promotion to the Premier League.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper is on the verge of joining Scottish giants Celtic in a deal worth around £2.4m.

Hooper scored 19 goals for the Iron last season, and subject to the 22-year-old agreeing personal terms, the transfer should be completed this week.

With promotion odds of 33/1, this season could be a difficult one for Scunthorpe, and losing Hooper would be a blow to Nigel Adkins’s side.

Burnley, meanwhile, have had an undisclosed bid for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant accepted.

Grant will compete with Brian ‘The Beast’ Jensen for a starting role in Brian Laws’s side, who are 10/1 to clinch the Championship title this season.
