Transfer news – Jackson joins Norwich to fuel forward firepower

Published:

Norwich have signalled their intent ahead of the forthcoming Championship season with the signing of Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson.

Jackson, who has signed for an undisclosed fee, joins a Norwich attack which already boasts the free-scoring likes of Chris Martin and Grant Holt, who notched 41 league goals between them last season.

Fresh from clinching the League One title last term, Norwich are 9/2 to claim a second successive promotion this season.

And with a squad packed with such goalscoring potency – Jackson netted 39 league goals during the last two seasons – Paul Lambert’s charges will be a threat to their Championship rivals.

Fans of The Wire may be surprised to hear that Scunthorpe have signed Jim McNulty, though the player in question is a 25-year-old defender, rather than a Baltimore detective.

McNulty, who joins from Brighton, is the fifth signing of the summer for Scunthorpe, who are 33/1 to gain promotion to the Premier League this season.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Portsmouth have signed defender Ibrahima Sonko on a season-long loan deal from Stoke.

The 29-year-old centre-back has had spells at Brentford and Reading, and will be an asset to a Pompey side who are 16/1 to return to the Premier League as champions.

In League Two, meanwhile, Lincoln have completed the signing of veteran defender Jamie Clapham, who joins on a free transfer following his release from Notts County.

Clapham, who has played for Ipswich, Birmingham and Leeds, was born in Lincoln, and his hometown club are 25/1 to win the League Two title.

Who will reach the promised land this season? Ipswich are 16/1 to win the Championship title. See the full Championship market.
