Anorthosis vs CSKA – Cypriots to regain pride after first-leg hiding

| 24.08.2010

CSKA Moscow need to do little more than turn up in Cyprus to secure their passage into the group stages of the Europa League for the seventh season in succession as they face Anorthosis Famagusta in the second leg of their qualifier.

The Russians are in firm control having claimed a 4-0 advantage in the first leg when Seydou Doumbia scored a first-half double and Zoran Tosic repeated the trick after the interval.

CSKA are 11/10 to seal their passage into the group stages with another victory, with Anorthosis 2/1 to regain some of their dignity through a win on their own patch.

They have already proven to be tough to beat in Europe on home soil as they were undefeated when making Group B of the Champions League in the 2008/09 season.

Anorthosis finished bottom of the group, but drew with both Inter Milan and Werder Bremen at home, while beating Panathinaikos 3-1.

However, they will be without goalkeeper Marcos Arguella for the second leg after he was sent off in the opening game.

Goals should be expected again in the second leg, with a 2-1 victory for the Cypriots looking tempting at 10/1 in the correct score market, while the 14/1 on the 2-2 draw may prove profitable.

CSKA won the competition in its former guise of the UEFA Cup in 2005 and are 33/1 to do so for a second time. See the whole Europa League cup winner market.
