Liverpool vs West Brom – Toothless Baggies have it all to do

| 27.08.2010

Just scoring a goal will be an achievement in itself for West Brom as they head to Liverpool looking to build on their recent Premier League victory over Sunderland.

The Baggies have failed to score in all eight of their Premier League meetings with Liverpool, while manager Roberto Di Matteo was not even born the last time his team took three points away from Anfield, which was in 1967.

However, they can take hope from the fact that Roy Hodgson is still waiting for his first Premier League success as Liverpool boss and that they have only managed nine shots on target during their opening two league games.

West Brom are 12/1 to pick up an unexpected victory and they may even be able to include Marc-Antoine Fortune in their team, as long as he is granted his international clearance in time following a move from Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old will be no stranger to West Brom fans having spent five months on loan at the Hawthornes in 2009 and could start alongside fellow new signing Peter Odemwingie, who scored the only goal on his debut in the 1-0 triumph over Sunderland.

On the negative side for West Brom, Liverpool are set to welcome back influential duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres after both missed their midweek Europe League win in Turkey over Trabzonspor.

Hodgson’s side are 2/9 to claim victory number 2,000 in league football, with David N’Gog proving to be their best option in attack so far this season.

The Frenchman is evens to score his fifth goal of the season inside the 90 minutes, while Gerrard is 7/2 to be the man to break the deadlock.

Liverpool won 3-0 the last time the pair clashed at Anfield and a repeat is priced at 6/1.

Jose Reina is 8/13 to keep a clean sheet in the Liverpool goal. See the complete Liverpool vs West Brom match betting market.
