QPR open up a two-point lead after overcoming Scunthorpe
Published:A 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe saw QPR become only the third side in seven years to begin the Championship season with three successive wins – and two of the last three to achieve the feat went on to gain promotion.
Neil Warnock’s men are 7/2 to take the title after their strongest start to a league campaign since 1947, which is even more impressive because in addition to scoring eight goals, they are yet to concede.
The Hoops’ London rivals and fellow 100 per cent record holders Millwall were put in their place at Elland Road, as Leeds came from behind to deliver their first win back at this level. Preston got off the mark too by beating Portsmouth 1-0 to climb from bottom to 17th.
Cardiff are up to second after Craig Bellamy’s first game for his hometown club bucked the trend of underwhelming debuts for high-profile signings. The Bluebirds thumped Doncaster 4-0, with Bellamy scoring a free-kick. They are 6/1 second favourites to win the league.
Burnley (8/1), Coventry (33/1) and Ipswich (10/1) join Cardiff on seven points after enjoying their second triumphs of the season against Leicester, who are bottom of the league, Derby and Edgar Davids’ new team Crystal Palace.
