Tottenham set for tricky introduction to Champions League

Published:

Tottenham were handed the kindest possible draw in the qualifiers against Young Boys but that luck well and truly deserted them today as they were paired with holders Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and FC Twente in Champions League Group A.

The Lilywhites are 33/1 to win the competition on their debut but are going to really struggle to live up to Jermain Defoe’s suggestion that they can go further than Arsenal (14/1), not least because the Gunners are once again in undaunting company.

Arsene Wenger’s men will face Shakhtar Donetsk – meaning a swift return to the Emirates for Eduardo da Silva – Sporting Braga and Partizan Belgrade, while Chelsea (11/2) won’t be too nervous about meeting Marseille, Spartak Moscow and MSK Zilina.

Manchester United (6/1) will play SPL champions Rangers in Group C, yet will expect to progress as leaders given that their other opponents are Valencia and Bursaspor, while the toughest group of all looks to be Group G, where AC Milan, Real Madrid, Ajax and Auxerre all collide!

Barcelona are 3/1 and should top a group featuring Panathinaikos, Copenhagen and Rubin Kazan. See the full UEFA Champions League football betting market here.
