West Ham in talks to land Inter striker Victor Obinna

| 23.08.2010

Inter Milan’s Victor Obinna in due in England for talks with Avram Grant about a possible move to West Ham.

The Nigerian striker failed to make an impact for his country at this summer’s World Cup but has been strongly linked with Liverpool, Stoke and Everton, with the Toffee’s unable to secure a work permit for his services back in 2008.

Grant is keen to provide support for Carlton Cole’s attack on the top goalscorer chart, bolstering a poor West Ham attack that managed 47 Premier League goals last season, and the Inter striker is seen as a solution to improving the Hammer’s goal scoring ratio.

The 23-year-old is thought to be one of Nigeria’s better talents but, due to lack of opportunities, has failed to materialise into the player whom Jose Mourinho touted as one for the future, and Grant believes he can resurrect Obinna’s career.

Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Stephane Sessegnon has also been linked with West Ham after the player conceded he cannot make any guarantees regarding his future at the Parc des Princes.

The Benin international has played a key role for PSG since moving from Le Mans but the £13m asking price could prove a stumbling block with West Ham looking to halve that transfer fee.

The East London club have nought to show from their first two games in the Premier League and with games against Manchester United and Chelsea coming up, Avram Grant will need the firepower if West Ham are to avoid relegation, of which they are currently a 9/4 shot.

West Ham lack the strength in depth to challenge for a top half finish and the 9/4 is tempting value for the Hammer’s to be relegated. See the full Barclays Premier League betting market here.
