Birmingham vs Liverpool – New signings hope for immediate impact

| 12.09.2010

Birmingham and Liverpool were among the busiest Premier League clubs in the latter stages of the transfer window and a number of new recruits are pushing to make their bows for their new clubs at St Andrew’s.

The home side can call on Chile winger Jean Beausejour for some added attacking flair and pace, while Martin Jiranek can provide some extra steel to the defence.

However, Aleksandr Hleb picked up a leg injury playing for Belarus and will have to wait to make his Birmingham debut.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson may choose to integrate Raul Meireles and Paul Konchesky into his new-look team, although he is without Dirk Kuyt because of a shoulder problem and Joe Cole serves the final game of a suspension.

Birmingham are 23/10 to build on the win they gained over Blackburn in their only home Premier League game to date this season.

Liverpool lost in their only away fixture, but can call on Fernando Torres, who returned from Spain duty without injury.

They are 6/5 to take the three points, with Torres 7/2 to grab the first goal of the game, although he has never scored against Birmingham before.

Steven Gerrard has found the net in six of the nine league games he has been involved in against Birmingham and is 7/4 to strike at any time in the 90 minutes.

Birmingham will fancy their chances of avoiding defeat even more as they have not lost in their last 16 games at St Andrew’s in the Premier League, while Liverpool have won only one of their last ten on the road.

The last six clashes between the pair have ended all-square, with the draw available at 23/10 this season. See the complete Birmingham vs Liverpool match betting market.
