Bulgaria vs Montenegro – Bulgaria need a win after England loss

| 06.09.2010

Bulgaria and Montenegro enter this game having experienced contrasting fortunes at the weekend.

A 4-0 defeat at the hands of group favourites England subjected Bulgaria to the bottom of the group and Stanimir Stoilov’s side will be hoping to bounce back when they welcome the bottom seeds to Sofia.

Montenegro managed to sneak a 1-0 victory against Wales thanks to star striker Mirko Vucinic’s early effort and the newly-formed Montenegro side will be hoping to capitalise on their opening three points by following it up with a win in Sofia.

Despite only being founded in 2007 after the split with Serbia, Montenegro have already climbed to 73 in the rankings and are dark horses in England’s group and won’t be a walkover for any side.

Bulgaria have the home advantage and that’s reflected in their price of 4/6 but Montenegro may surprise a few people in this group and they are available at 9/2.

However the teams have met twice before in 2010 World Cup qualifying and Bulgaria took four points off Montenegro, first with a 2-2 draw in Montenegro and with a 4-1 win in Sofia.

Off the back of their thrilling 4-4 defeat with Cyprus on Friday, Portugal, minus Cristiano Ronaldo, are 11/8 to win in Norway and Liverpool new boy, Raul Meireles, will be hoping to find the net for the second time in a week – he is 14/1 to get the first goal.

Belarus will be riding high on confidence after beating France 1-0 and they face a home tie against Romania where they can stamp their authority at the top of Group D, a group they are 10/1 to top.

Belarus are 8/5 to beat Romania and look the pick of Tuesday’s bets. See the full UEFA European Qualifying football betting market here.
