Djokovic pulls out of singles match with Radek Stepanek

Serbia hope that Novak Djokovic can overcome his disappointment at missing out on his first US Open win to guide them to the Davis Cup final.

Czech Republic pose a tough test for the Serbian side, they lost in last year’s final to Spain and have dominated Belgium and Chile on their way to the semi-final, and in Tomas Berdych, they have a man who can match Djokovic’s feat of reaching a Grand Slam final.

Serbia can boast the World Team Cup winners in Nenad Zimonjic and Victor Troicki and they provide a strong doubles pairing which the Czech pair of Jan Hajek and Ivo Minar will struggle against, so it’s likely to come down to the singles.

Djokovic plays Radek Stepanek before taking on Berdych, who plays Janko Tipsarevic in his first singles match and the two Serbs can put their country in control as they look for a spot in the final – Serbia are 11/8 favourites to win the competition.

In the second semi-final, France will be led by Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet as they look to capitalise on a US Open that saw 16 Frenchmen progress to the second round.

French tennis hasn’t been this strong since the 1930’s and after dominating last year’s champions Spain 5-0 in the quarter-finals, they are the value at 2/1 to win this year’s Davis Cup.

France’s four, Monfils, Gasquet, Giles Simon and Michael Llodra are all in the top forty-one which is why they are favourites to win the tie with Argentina.

Argentina can boast four players in the World’s top 80 but they have scraped their way to the semi-finals with 3-2 wins over Russia and Sweden and will struggle against a strong French line-up.

Czech Republic are the 8/1 outsiders to win the Davis Cup. See the full Davis Cup tennis betting market here.
