Everton vs Newcastle – Hughton may make first changes of season

| 18.09.2010

Chris Hughton is considering making changes to his Newcastle starting line-up for the first time in the Premier League this season as they prepare to travel to Everton.

Newcastle have been unchanged in their opening four games, but a home defeat against Blackpool in their last outing has left Hughton pondering a reshuffle.

Recent recruit Hatem Ben Arfa may start after impressing off the bench against Blackpool, while Sol Campbell and Chiek Tiote could be handed their debuts.

Newcastle are 9/2 to claim a second victory of the season and if they are to win they will have to ensure they defend stoutly right until the final whistle.

Five of Everton’s last eight Premier League goals have been scored after the 90th minute, including two in stoppage-time when they drew 3-3 at home to Manchester United in their last game.

David Moyes opted against selecting a striker for the game, instead playing Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini in the most advanced positions, and he may do the same again against Newcastle.

Cahill has scored twice in the league this season and is 9/2 to open the scoring against Newcastle, while he is 5/4 to find the net inside the 90 minutes.

Everton are also unbeaten in their last 14 outings at Goodison Park and have won four of the last five clashes between the pair at the ground.

They have also scored eight in the last three of these games and a 3-0 Everton win could be a good bet at 11/1, while they are 4/6 to simply win.

In Newcastle’s last Premier League season they drew both games with Everton. See the whole Everton vs Newcastle match betting market.
