First chance for Hercules’ new signings to hit the limelight

| 10.09.2010

After their 3-0 mauling of Racing Santander last week, Racing coach Miguel Angel Portugal was left musing after the game that Barcelona looked better than ever.

If Portugal is to be believed, it’s a daunting thought for the rest of La Liga as they look to close the gap on the team, considered by many, to be the greatest in world football.

Pep Guardiola will not be consumed by the hype and knows his Barcelona side have a lot of work to do if they are to beat Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid to the title, and its games against sides like Hercules that he will not be taking for granted.

That leaves Hercules with little chance, even with the addition of new signings David Trezeguet, Royston Drenthe and Nelson Valdez.

Barcelona, who are 1/14 to beat Hercules, have scored at least four goals in their last 38 home games under Barcelona and it’s hard to see Hercules containing the Barcelona attacking power.

David Villa opened his Barcelona account last week and is 2/1 to score the first goal and it’s 8/13 for there to be over 3.5 goals.

Hercules can take confidence from the fact they’ve beaten Barcelona on the last two occasions they’ve played them, but that was back in 1997 and they are 20/1 to win in the Nou Camp.

Valencia vs Racing Santander

After last week’s tie with Barcelona, Racing make the trip to Catalonia but will face Valencia instead of the Spanish champions.

Valencia are without a win in their last five meetings with Racing and Racing have failed to score against Valencia in the last three games, the 0-0 draw is 12/1.

Joaquim bagged a brace in Valencia’s first game at Malaga and the resurgence of the winger could be vital in Valencia’s attempts to close the gap on Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Valencia are 25/1 to win La Liga. See the full Spanish La Liga football betting market here.
