Frank Lampard ruled out of key clashes for Chelsea and England

Chelsea will be without Frank Lampard for their upcoming games against Marseille and Arsenal as the England midfielder continues his recovery from a hernia injury.

Lampard has been out since the start of September and will also miss England’s home match with Montenegro on October 12th.

The man who once registered a record 164 consecutive appearances for Chelsea is recovering slowly from his hernia operation and will not return to the Chelsea side until after the international break.

Until the Manchester City result on Saturday, Chelsea were coping brilliantly without Lampard, scoring 14 times in the five games Lampard has missed and have shortened to 4/5 to win the Premier League.

However Manchester City’s win at Eastlands proved how important Lampard is to Chelsea with Michael Essien wasting a host of opportunities in the advanced role he’s been playing whilst Lampard has been out.

Chelsea are without Lampard and Didier Drogba when Marseille visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, but will be confident of securing victory, 3/10 to do so, without their two talisman.

But Carlo Ancelotti would’ve liked to see Lampard back for the crucial tie at home to Arsenal on Saturday in a game Chelsea are 5/6 to win.

After losing to Man City, Ancelotti will want to bounce straight back with a win against Arsenal but Chelsea drew their following game with Everton after losing at Eastlands last season and went on to draw three of the following four games.

Lampard will be keen to establish himself back in the Chelsea line-up soon but will not be seen in a blue shirt until October 16th at the earliest, when Chelsea visit Aston Villa.

Marseille are 10/1 to register a surprise win at Stamford Bridge. See the full Chelsea vs Marseille match betting odds market here.
