Graeme McDowell heads to Austria in search of diamonds

The Diamond Country Club will host the Austrian Golf Open presented by Botarin this week and Graeme McDowell is eyeing his third success this season.

McDowell secured his place in the European Ryder Cup team thanks to a win in Wales and his US Open major victory, and the Ulsterman heads to Austria as a real contender at 8/1 to take home the title.

A win for McDowell would increase the European Ryder Cup team’s hold on the European Tour to six wins from the last six tournaments, and Colin Montgomerie will be pleased to see his team hit form as they look to justify 8/13 favouritism.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, fresh from a week off after his Omega European Masters win, is the 7/1 favourite to win what would be his fourth title of the season, if he were to do so, he will be the Ryder Cup’s most in-form player.

Jimenez is 25/1 to be the top European points scorer at the Ryder Cup, a price that seems considerably long in view of the Spaniards form, and that is likely to shorten should Jimenez emerge victorious.

Austrian Markus Brier has won the Austrian Golf Open twice on the Challenge Tour and once on the European Tour and is 33/1 to win this week.

However the move from Brier’s home course, Fontana Golf Club, to the Diamond Gold Club may prove an unnecessary distraction for the Austrian.

Fellow countryman Marcus Wiegele is the better value at 50/1 after his two wins this season.

The two Ryder Cup stars should be at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday night. See the full Austrian Golf Open betting market here.
