Kombouare not concerned about lack of PSG central defenders

Paris St Germain may have left themselves short of defensive options ahead of their challenge in the Europa League after failing to make suitable acquisitions before the end of the transfer window.

The French club are 50/1 to win the Europa League, but coach Antoine Kombouare is unsure if they have enough depth at the heart of their defence.

Kombouare was keen to purchase a centre-half before the window closed and had earmarked Marko Basa of Lokomotiv Moscow as his chief target.

However, no deal was struck between the two clubs, leaving Paris St Germain short of alternatives outside of young captain Mamadou Sakho and Zoumana Camara at the heart of their defence.

The coach told L’Equipe: “I am disappointed we could not sign anyone in that position, but I didn’t want us to do anything in a hurry and sign a player just for the sake of it.

“We won’t be using our failure to sign anybody as an excuse, as we have the right players to achieve our objectives.”

Paris St Germain have been drawn into one of the tougher groups if they wish to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

They face Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and Karpaty Lviv in Group J and are 5/2 to progress deeper into the tournament as group winners.

Meanwhile, they have not made the best start to the French Ligue 1 season, sitting on four points from the same number of games behind Toulouse, who still have a 100 per cent record.

Paris St Germain are 14/1 to win Ligue 1 this season, with Toulouse 22/1. See the whole Ligue 1 winners market.
