Mackie double helps move QPR clear as Championship leaders

| 15.09.2010

QPR did their early-season chances of gaining promotion to the Premier League the world of good by winning impressively 3-0 at Ipswich.

Jamie Mackie scored a first-half double in the win to send Neil Warnock’s team three points clear at the top of the table and they are now 5/2 to win the Championship.

Heidur Helguson completed the scoring with a second-half penalty to inflict a first defeat on Roy Keane’s team this season.

QPR have now won five of their six league games and in this time have conceded only two goals, a run they will be looking to continue when they travel to Leicester next.

They are 13/8 to claim another three points, but may be in for a tough ride after Leicester proved they can upset the front-runners with a 2-1 over Cardiff.

Cardiff began the round of fixtures level on points with QPR and took the lead through Lee Naylor, despite not having the likes of Craig Bellamy, Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra at their disposal.

But Andy King scored a double to hand Paulo Sousa a first victory in the league as Leicester boss.

James Coppinger struck a hat-trick to lift Doncaster to fourth in the table as they won 3-1 at home to Norwich.

Doncaster are 33/1 to win the Championship and now sit five points adrift of QPR after their first victory over Norwich in 75 years.

Elsewhere, Millwall remain 25/1 to be crowned champions this season despite losing ground on the leaders thanks to a goalless draw at home to Reading.

Steve Morison had scored five goals in six games heading into the fixture and had a hatful of chances to add to this tally, but found Reading’s Adam Federici in inspired form.

He will be keen to rediscover his scoring touch at home to Watford next, where Millwall are 5/6 to win.

Cardiff are 4/1 to win the Championship this season. See the whole Championship winners market.
