Misconduct charge sees Wenger opt out of Spurs clash

| 21.09.2010

Arsene Wenger has taken the rap after being hit with a misconduct charge by the FA following his actions in Arsenal’s clash with Sunderland last Saturday.

In his 14 years as manager, Arsenal have missed their manager just the once, in a Champions League tie with Steaua Bucharest which they won 2-1.

However with a young side expected to face Tottenham, it remains to be seen if the inexperienced team will suffer without their coach – they are 2/1 to win in the Carling Cup match betting market.

Last weekend West Ham and Stoke both had to make do without their managers and they both shared a point.

But Tony Pulis’ arrival at half time in Stoke’s game with Aston Villa last week was the inspiration Stoke needed to come from a goal down to win 2-1.

If the Arsenal side needs a rousing team talk at half time, it won’t come from Wenger who will not be able to visit the changing rooms either before during or after the game.

Spurs are 5/4 favourites for tonight’s clash although Harry Redknapp has confirmed he will use fringe players as he looks to rest his first eleven with games against West Ham and FC Twente coming up.

Had Wenger lodged an appeal against the ban and failed, the fine would have risen to £12,000 and a two match ban would be enforced, forcing Wenger to sit in the Stamford Bridge stands for Arsenal’s top of the table clash with Chelsea in 11 days time.

Spurs are 7/1 to win the Carling Cup and Arsenal are as long as 16/1 which would suggest that Spurs have tonight’s win already wrapped up.

If a game is to end in a draw, 5/2, extra time and penalties will be required. See the full Tottenham vs Arsenal match betting market here.
