Pizarro’s return could inspire Bremen to win over Hamburg

Werder Bremen will be hoping that the return of both Per Mertesacker and Claudio Pizarro can help them end a three-game winless streak when they entertain Hamburg.

Bremen have made a disappointing start to the season by taking just four points from their opening five Bundesliga games and have already fallen 11 points behind surprise leaders Mainz.

Their recent history against Hamburg does not inspire much confidence that they will return to winning ways as half of the last six Bundesliga outings at home to the opposition have ended 1-1.

It is 11/8 that Bremen manage to beat Hamburg, while a repeat of the relatively frequent 1-1 draw is priced at 11/2.

Furthermore, two of Hamburg’s three most recent Bundesliga fixtures have ended 1-1.

Pizarro’s return could be especially pivotal for Bremen as he scored the first goal in home game with Hamburg last season.

Hannover beat Bremen 4-1 in their last game and this result helped to continue their fine start, which has seen them be one of the Bundesliga’s surprise packages to sit fourth in the table.

However, they have produced their best form at home, which could impact their chances of winning at Kaiserslautern.

They are 23/10 to win, but Kaiserslautern are unbeaten at home this season and the 6/5 on offer for them to beat Hannover in the Bundesliga betting seems the wiser selection.

Games between the pair at Kaiserslautern also tend to be fairly low scoring, with only a goal a game averaged across the last five meetings.

This could make the 3/1 available on the game having under 1.5 goals profitable, while it is 11/10 that under 2.5 goals will be scored.
