Stoke win means consecutive home defeats for Newcastle

The Toon Army have just the three points from their first three home games and Chris Hughton knows that needs to improve if they are to stay in the division.

Stoke City’s late winner thanks to James Perch’s own goal condemned Newcastle to their second home defeat in a row.

Newcastle’s dominance of the Championship was down to their record at St James’ Park where Hughton led the team to an unbeaten term.

But the Toon fans have been quick to realise just how difficult life in the Premier League can be after consecutive home defeats, and despite lying in tenth place with seven points, home wins are the key if they are to stay in the division.

Newcastle dropped just ten points at home last season and they will need to recover their home form quickly if they are to avoid relegation – they are currently 4/1 to be relegated.

With a tricky tie away to Manchester City on Sunday, Hughton must target three points from the home game with Wigan on October 16th.

However the form of loan signing Haten Ben Arfa will please the Toon faithful as the French winger is adapting to the Premier League quickly, and Hughton will need to utilise the international in Newcastle’s bid for goals.

After his strong start to the season, the goals have dried up for Andy Carroll, but if Ben Arfa can continue to provide the service, Carroll can benefit from the wingers ability and he is 40/1 to be the Premier League’s top goalscorer.

With four goals this season, Carroll currently lies fifth in the top scorer market.

Blackpool are 2/7 favourites to be relegated. See the full Barclays Premier League betting odds market here.
