Titus Bramble arrested in Newcastle over allegations of rape

| 22.09.2010

Titus Bramble has been arrested on suspicion of rape after police received a phone call from a 20-year-old woman following an incident in a Newcastle hotel.

Bramble and a second man were arrested by police in the Vermont hotel early on Wednseday morning and it’s believed they are being questioned over the incident.

As of yet, Sunderland are yet to comment on the matter and it is unclear whether Bramble will be available for the trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

Steve Bruce signed Bramble for £1m earlier in the summer, and a string of strong performances, including a man of the match display against Manchester City, has seen the Mackem fans take to the sometimes clumsy defender.

If Bramble is to miss the match with Liverpool, it will be a huge blow to Steve Bruce and the Premier League match betting odds suggest Sunderland are really up against it.

Sunderland are 6/1 to win at Anfield whilst Liverpool can be backed at 1/2 in the Premier League betting market.

However Robinho was arrested on a similar charge in January 2009 and was able to play the following Saturday but his Manchester City side lost 1-0 to Stoke.

With Roy Hodgson struggling to get his side to gel since taking over at Liverpool, it’s hard to believe anyone is a long as 6/1 to beat them, even if it is at Anfield.

Bramble will probably be bailed whilst the enquiries continue and Sunderland will hope he can keep Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard quiet like he did when Wigan beat Liverpool 1-0 last year.

The draw is available at 3/1. See the full the Liverpool vs Sunderland match betting market here.
