Tyrone Barnett makes strong start to his Macclesfield career

Tyrone Barnett’s header in the 52nd minute at Crewe on Tuesday night was his third goal of the season and has prompted Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson to offer Barnett a new deal.

Barnett initially signed a one-year deal with the Silkmen after impressing at non-league Hednesford Town.

But after impressing his manager in the early stages of the season, Simpson has rewarded Barnett by taking up the option of extending the deal for another season.

In two seasons with Hednesford he scored 41 goals in 80 games and Simpson believes his main striker could get even better with the addition of a strike partner.

“If we were to change the style a bit and put another striker up there with him I think he’d be even better still,” said Simpson.

If Simpson is to be believed, Barnett could fancy his chances in the league’s top goalscorer betting market, but he would have to go some way to overtake Rotherham’s Adam Le Fondre who has eight goals in nine games and is the 7/4 favourite.

Up next for Barnett and Macclesfield is a home tie with Northampton and the two sides are split in the League by just a point.

Northampton will fancy their chances of a win after emerging victorious in five of the six ties the two have contested at Moss Road, and they are backable at 17/10 to win in Macclesfield.

The same fixture was won by Northampton 2-0 last season and the same result to happen on Saturday is 8/1.

Barnett is 6/1 top open the scoring on Saturday. See the full League Two football betting odds market here.
