Walsall’s misery continues as knee injury sidelines Byfield

| 22.09.2010

The pressure will now be on Reuben Reid and Jon Macken to get Walsall’s League One promotion aspirations back on track as striker Darren Byfield is set to miss their next few games with a knee injury.

Chris Hutchings’ team are already in the midst of a dire run which has seen them lose their last five games in all competitions and now he will have to do without his captain for the next fortnight.

Byfield limped out of the 2-1 loss at home to Swindon and will now be unavailable for their next three important League Two games against Hartlepool, Leyton Orient and Yeovil.

Hutchings said: “Darren will be out for around two weeks.

“The scan revealed bruising to his knee. It’s a bit of a blow but we do have attacking options.”

Byfield has scored one league goal so far this season, with Reid and Macken currently the joint top-scorers with two goals each.

Both are 50/1 to be the top scorer in League One this season, while Byfield is 66/1 to find his shooting boots on his return from injury.

Walsall are currently 100/1 to win League One, but their more immediate concern is climbing the table as they sit just outside the relegation zone on goal difference at present.

They are 12/5 to win away at Hartlepool in the League One betting and they can take confidence from the fact that they have already won on the road this season when beating Brentford.

All of Walsall’s five defeats have been by a single goal and 7/1 is on offer for both Hartlepool to win 1-0 and 2-1.

Hartlepool are 11/10 to beat Walsall. See the whole Hartlepool vs Walsall match betting market.
