Benitez wants more Inter signings to maintain title challenge

Rafa Benitez believes that he will need to be busy in the transfer window again in January if Inter Milan are going to avoid fatigue in the latter portion of the Serie A season.

Benitez has opted against too much squad rotation through the opening seven league games of the campaign at Inter as the club go in search of their sixth Serie A title in succession.

Samuel Eto’o is one of four players to have started all seven games and has rewarded Benitez with six goals.

He netted the only goal as Inter returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success away at Cagliari, which brought to an end a run of two games without a victory.

Inter currently sit two points behind Lazio in third in the league standings and this has seen them remain at 1/1 to win Serie A.

However, Benitez knows the importance of bringing in some new faces midway through the season to ensure that Inter can maintain their title push right through until the end of the campaign.

He said: “We need to analyse two or three situations with director Marco Branca. I think we need to buy new players in January so we can be sharp right to the end of the season.”

There biggest challenge is likely to come from rivals AC Milan, who are currently level on points with Inter and 7/4 to win Serie A.

Milan have tasted success in their last three Serie A outings and may have stumbled onto a winning formula by pairing Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack for the 3-1 home win over Chievo.

Ibrahimovic laid on two goals for Pato in the win, while Ronaldinho played just behind the pairing and Robinho came on as a substitute to highlight Milan’s range of attacking options.

Lazio are 28/1 to win Serie A despite currently leading the standings. See the complete Serie A winners betting odds market.
