Boyd reveals that second not good enough for determined Posh
Published:George Boyd insists that Peterborough will not be settling for second place in League One this season and their sights are firmly set on winning the title.
Peterborough currently sit three points behind Brighton in second in the standings and this is largely because of their tendency to concede goals.
It is fortunate that Gary Johnson’s team have been deadly in front of goal as they have the worst defensive record in the division, letting in 22 goals in their 12 League One games.
However, at the other end they have found the target 28 times and they have been especially prolific at home, with 21 goals in six games.
Second will be good enough for Peterborough to instantly return to the Championship, but Posh have the highest ambitions and can be backed at 9/2 to win League One.
Boyd told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: “We want to win the league. It’s no good being second, it’s OK at this stage of the season but we want to be winning it.
“We’re working hard on our defensive unit because we know we’re going to score goals. It’s about being tight as a unit and to keep scoring at the other end.”
Peterborough’s next game takes them to Brentford, who currently occupy the final spot in the relegation places and do not have the best defensive record themselves, conceding three times in each of their last two league outings.
They are 11/8 to beat Brentford, but have lost more games than they have won on their travels this season.
Craig Mackail-Smith has also scored eight league goals this season and can be backed at 6/1 to open the scoring against Brentford.
