Faroe Islands vs Northern Ireland – Worthington wants goals in Toftir

Published:

Northern Ireland can register their second victory in Group C as they emerge as potential challengers to Italy for a qualifying spot.

The point against Italy left Northern Ireland on four points and in third position in the table after just two games, and they face a Faroe Islands side that are leaking goals.

Match Odds

Despite Faroe Islands being the whipping boys of European qualifying, Northern Ireland cannot afford to be complacent when visiting Toftir on Tuesday.

A win would put Northern Ireland in a strong position to qualify in a group that is very open for second place providing Italy play to their ranking and finish top – Northern Ireland are 3/10 to beat Faroe Islands.

Faroe Islands are 9/1 to win at home but have won just one home European qualifier since becoming a member of FIFA in 1988, and that was against San Marino in 1995.

The two sides have met before though, the Faroe Islands managed to scrape a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland in 1991 before being trounced 5-0 in their home leg which was played in Sweden.

Total Goals

In the 2008 European Championships qualifying campaign, Faroe Islands conceded 43 goals in the space of 12 games, including 2-0 and 6-0 losses to Scotland.

Northern Ireland have managed just the one goal in their opening two qualifiers, but Tuesday night’s game gives them a chance to improve their goal difference and David Healy will be looking to get on the scoresheet – he is 8/11 to score any time.

However Northern Ireland’s goal scoring has worried manager Nigel Worthington and you can get 1/1 that there will be under 2.5 goals in the game.

After keeping out the Italian attack, the Northern Ireland defence will be confident of keeping a clean sheet against the European minnows and they are 4/7 to do so.

Northern Ireland are 12/1 to top Group C. See the full Faroe Islands vs Northern Ireland betting odds market here.
