Heskey hoping for goal repeat in Villa’s return to Sunderland

Emile Heskey has hailed Aston Villa’s attitude of trying to win games and is hopeful to do his bit for the team for the second season in succession against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Heskey opened the scoring at the ground last year as Villa left with a 2-0 victory and there is every chance he will do the same again this season, which can be backed at 7/1, thanks to his resurgence in form under new boss Gerard Houllier.

The former England striker has been a transformed character in recent games, causing defenders a host of problems with his power and pace.

However, he insists that the result is more important than his own individual performance as Villa look to improve their away record after losing three of their four Premier League games this season on their travels.

Heskey told the club’s official website: “We have been going out trying to win games and it’ll be the same this weekend. Hopefully we can get the same result as last time.

“It does help knowing you’ve done well at a ground before because you know that you’re capable of doing it again.”

Villa are 19/10 to beat Sunderland but will be buoyed by the fact that they have won on three of their last four Premier League visits to the ground.

The pressure is on Heskey to perform, particularly as fellow strikers Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew are both not 100 per cent fit and he is

This means that Villa will have to call on star prospect Nathan Delfouneso to make a rare start if Heskey also fails to recover from the back strain that caused him to miss the recent draw with Chelsea.

Sunderland are 7/5 to beat Villa and will be relying on Titus Bramble to deal with the threat of Heskey, who was his old teammate at Wigan. See the whole Sunderland vs Aston Villa match betting odds market.
