Leicester vs West Brom – West Brom emerging as cup contenders

| 26.10.2010

While West Bromwich Albion were securing automatic promotion to the Premier League last season, Leicester City were hoping to reach the top tier through the play-offs.

But Leicester failed and with the season a quarter of the way in, West Brom currently sit sixth in the Premier League while Leicester languish in 21st place in the Championship.

Match Odds

With such contrasting starts to the seasons, it’s hard to see beyond a West Brom victory and they are 5/4 to beat Leicester as Roberto Di Matteo looks set to field a full strength side.

But Sven-Goran Eriksson’s appointment has proven popular in Leicester, and the former England manager started strongly in his Leicester career, despite their 2-0 loss to Swansea last Saturday.

A host of loan signings has seen the Leicester squad improve, but Eriksson may use this game as a chance to take a look at the fringe players of the squad who he has yet to see in action.

Leicester are 11/5 to win, but a weakened side will hand the edge to West Brom and that 5/4 price looks very tempting.

Total Goals

Di Matteo’s side have had no problems adapting to life in the Premier League and have scored 13 goals in their nine games.

James Morrison has been their stand-out player this season when he hasn’t been suspended, controlling the game in victories over Arsenal and Fulham, and in the draw with Manchester United – he is a decent price at 7/1 to score first.

The last four ties between these teams have all produced three goals or more and over 2.5 goals is available at 21/25.

In the Championship last season, Leicester lost this fixture 2-1, and a 2-1 win for West Brom is available at 7/1.

A draw is available at 11/4 and should game go to extra time, Leicester are 5/4 to qualify. See the full Leicester vs West Bromwich Albion betting odds market here.
