Liverpool deep in crisis after defeat at home to Blackpool

Liverpool’s shocking start to the season continued when Blackpool upset Roy Hodgson’s side at Anfield on Saturday.

It leaves Roy Hodgson as the 7/2 third favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave and his comments after the game suggest Liverpool will struggle this season.

“I am not going to think too much about relegation with 31 games left to play and I am absolutely convinced Liverpool will not be in the bottom three at the end of the season,” said Hodgson.

Whether we can fulfil our ambition of finishing towards the top is another matter, but when you saw the way we played in the second half I am incredulous anyone can suggest we will finish in the bottom three.”

It’s strange to associate Liverpool with a relegation battle and however unlikely it is that Liverpool will face a relegation fight come the end of the season, the talk is a fair representation of Liverpool’s current plight.

Liverpool are 14/1 to be relegated and compared with Manchester City, 500/1, and Tottenham Hotspur, 150/1, the betting market suggests a mid-table finish for Liverpool.

Blackpool, 1/5 at the start of the season to be relegated, are now 1/2 after strong performances away from home and they currently lie 9th in the Premier League table.

With 10 points from seven games and three away wins, it has been a positive start for Ian Holloway’s men but the Tangerines boss knows his side must start winning at home to stay in the division.

They are yet to win at Bloomfield Road in two games and Holloway will have the International break to get his side ready for their home clash with Manchester City on October 17th.

Liverpool are 200/1 to mount a challenge for the Premier League title. See the full Barclays Premier League betting odds market here.
