Newcastle vs Arsenal – Sol Campbell set to face former club

Published:

Theo Walcott is set to make his first Arsenal start since August after recovering from the ankle injury that he suffered during England’s match with Switzerland.

Toon fans could witness the second start of Sol Campbell as Chris Hughton prepares to throw the veteran centre-back into action against his former employers.

Match Odds

Newcastle were unbeaten at St James Park in last season’s Championship, but they have struggled to repeat that form in the Premier League, winning just one of their four home games.

But the Magpies have started the season well, they are currently sitting in ninth having taken 11 points from nine games and Hughton’s side are 13/5 to beat Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger continues with his policy of using fringe players, but those fringe players are starting to make the step-up into the first team.

With the likes of Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner, Johan Djorou, Emanuel Eboue, Abou Diaby and Walcott set to start tomorrow, Arsenal should have too much class for Newcastle and the Gooners are 10/11 to beat the Magpies.

Total Goals

In the last four games between the two sides, Arsenal have scored exactly three goals in all four of those games and they are 12/1 to win 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Newcastle did manage a consolation on the last occasion the two sides met, but they will need top scorer Kevin Nolan, and his housemate Andy Carroll to be in top goalscoring form if Newcastle are to get anything from this tie.

Carroll is 2/1 to score any time and his landlord is available at 5/2, but Bendtner, who will be relishing a return to the starting line-up is 2/1 to score any time for Arsenal.

Arsenal are also 9/4 to score over 2.5 goals while total goals over 3.5 is available at 6/4.

Newcastle are 13/8 to qualify should the tie go to extra time. See the full Newcastle United vs Arsenal betting odds here.
