PGA Tour heads to Malaysia for invitation only exclusive event
Published:The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia plays host to a multi-cultural field this week as the invite-only tournament provides plenty of value in the betting market.
The event isn’t classed as a full PGA Tour event and the earnings don’t count towards the money list, which is why some of the bigger American names aren’t competing this week, but the $6m prize purse will keep the field competitive.
Ryder Cup winner Luke Donald, Ryder Cup hero Rickie Fowler and PGA Grand Slam of Golf champion Ernie Els all head the betting market at 10/1.
Els is in with a great chance of winning after triumphing at the Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda last week, and his fifth position in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai proves just how successful the big easy has been this season and he can’t be ruled out.
Luke Donald hasn’t featured on a golf course since the Ryder Cup, but his record before that is pretty impressive.
Two second place finishes in his last three tournaments proves he’s in form, but Donald is seeking his first individual win for four years and it may be the mental barrier that keeps him from triumphing in Malaysia.
Rickie Fowler is also searching for his first win in his rookie season, but the confidence he gained from his Ryder Cup performance has led his to a fourth place finish and a 22T in his last two starts, and his maiden win isn’t far off.
John Senden continued his fine form with a 11T in Las Vegas last week, meaning he now has 5 top-15’s in his last six starts, and the American is 25/1 to win in Malaysia.
Of the locals, nineteen-year-old Seung-yul Noh leads the Asian money list and he will be desperate to prove himself in front of international opposition and is 20/1 to win this week.
