Wozniacki and Stosur face off after impressive opening wins

Danish superstar Caroline Wozniacki will be hoping to end her fantastic year with victory in the WTA Championship in Doha.

The 20-year-old has already raked in over $3 million in prize money and has won six WTA tour singles titles this year so far.

She made short work of Elena Dementieva yesterday, battering the Russian 6-1 6-1 to win her Maroon Group opener in straight sets.

Should Wozniacki win today, then she is guaranteed to end the year as the number one ranked player in the world.

With Serena Williams missing through injury, this is also a great chance for Wozniacki to end her best season yet on a high.

To make it through though, she’ll have to get past fifth seed Samantha Stosur in her next Maroon Group clash.

Stosur took a little longer to win her match yesterday, eventually winning 6-4 6-4 against French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.

The Australian has been enjoying a good season though, finishing runner up in the French Open and making almost $2 million in prize money.

Despite this, Stosur is very much the underdog for this match at 11/4, but with her powerful serve and aggressive ground strokes, she should not be underestimated.

Wozniacki, though, the clear favourite at 1/4, will not be taking anything for granted as the two women have been neck and neck in their meetings so far.

Wozniacki and Stosur have played each other four times, with both women triumphing twice. Most recently they met in Osaka last year when Stosur won a tight game in three sets.

Whichever of them proves victorious, they will be hot favourites to win the tournament.

As the tournament is split into groups, two wins guarantees a semi final spot and both can do that this afternoon.

Wozniacki is at present the favourite to win the competition, with odds of 13/8, but Stosur isn’t far away in fifth, ranked at 8/1 to lift the trophy.

Caroline Wozniacki is 2/5 to beat Samantha Stosur and win the first set. Follow the full WTA odds market here.
