Bet on Siddle replacing McGrath and taking the English wickets

It’s no surprise that in recent times English bowlers haven’t fared to well on the Brisbane strip considering they haven’t won there for 14 years.

In Glenn McGrath Australia had a bowler who dominated top orders at the Gabba, but since McGrath retired in 2006, Australia have struggled to find a replacement.

Step forward Peter Siddle who gets his chance at the expense of Doug Bollinger, and the Australian terror is 4/1 to be Australia’s top Ashes wicket-taker and 3/1 to be Australia’s top wicket taker in the first innings.

With both the Australian and English top order expected to prosper on the Gabba strip, both attacks will be subject to a bit of a hammering over the next five days and its the aggression and will of Siddle that can see him do the most damage.

Siddle took 16 wickets across the five first innings in the 2009 Ashes, and Ricky Ponting will throw Siddle the new ball when the teams take to the field in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Graeme Swann is 11/10 to be England’s leading wicket-taker in the Ashes but is as long as 3/1 to be England’s top wicket-take in the first innings.

On a strip that doesn’t favour the spinners, both James Anderson and Stuart Broad are 5/2 to be England’s leading wicket-taker in the first innings.

The performance of England’s back-up bowlers in England’s final warm-up Test suggest the English attack is the strongest it’s been for a long time and Strauss will be hopeful of his attack doing some damage.

But Australia have declared in the second innings at the Gabba on the last four occasions and punters would be wiser backing the Aussie attack ahead of the English attack.

A £10 stake on Siddle taking the most wickets in the first Test would return £70. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
