Carlo Ancelotti is second favourite to be next manager out
Published:Carlo Ancelotti will be Chelsea manager for the foreseeable future the club confirmed today.
It’s been a tumultuous couple of weeks in west London. The sacking of Ray Wilkins as Ancelotti’s assistant coach and defeats to Sunderland and Birmingham – the first time they have lost consecutive league games since 2006 – have all contributed to a less perfect period for the defending Premier League champions.
The Italian was allegedly unhappy with how the dismissal of Wilkins was handled and, following the Birmingham defeat, is rumoured to have tendered his resignation yesterday.
Ancelotti has seen his odds on being the next Premier League manager to leave come in to 4/1 in the wake of the speculation, but the club have today rubbished the rumours.
A source told Sky Sports News: “He is contracted until 2012 and any speculation about his future is total nonsense.”
One thing that can’t be denied though is Chelsea’s dreadful form over the past three weeks. The Blues have already lost four league games this season after tasting defeat just six times in the league in the whole of last season and have been caught on points by Manchester United.
The Blues are still favourites for the league title, but they have lengthened from odds on a few weeks ago to the relatively long 11/10.
Following their straightforward win against Wigan, United are now in to 2/1 to reclaim the title they lost by one point last year.
