Gary Anderson set to progress in Grand Slam of Darts
Published:He may not have started the tournament in prefect fashion, but Gary Anderson is well on his way to mounting a serious challenge for the Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts.
In a tough group, the ‘Flying Scotsman’ opened up impressively with a 5-0 whitewash against Mark Hylton, before smashing Wayne Jones 5-2 to all but guarantee his progress to the second round.
After his brilliant brace of wins he finished on top of the group despite his 5-3 defeat to Mark Webster in his final game.
That defeat doesn’t seem to have made too much difference to his odds though, and the 2009 Welsh Players Championship winner is now third favourite to win the Grand Slam of Darts at 9/1.
However, he faces a tough game against Colin Osborne in their second round clash tonight. Osborne finished second in his group thanks to narrow wins against Dave Chisnall and Simon Whitlock and a defeat to Robert Thornton.
There is little to choose between the two players in the betting odds, with Anderson at 4/5 and Osborne at 10/11. However, after a solid season on the PDO circuit, Anderson looks good to win in a tight affair.
Backing Anderson to come through 10-8 in the correct score market could also be worth further investigation at 7/1.
Anderson is only in his second season on the PDO circuit after leaving the BDO in February 2009 and is already in at 12/1 to win the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
