Keane convinced he’s still the right man for Ipswich

| 29.11.2010

He’s never been one to back down from a challenge, which is just as well, because Roy Keane is facing the biggest test of his managerial career at Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys have now lost their last four games in the Championship, have slipped to 16th in the league and face West Brom in the Carling Cup on Wednesday – a game they are 11/4 to win.

Despite their recent poor run of form, they are just six points off the top six and in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. Keane is still adamant his side can still deliver on their early season promise.

He said: “I do feel I can turn things around. But you need that time and support and sometimes you don’t get that – I live in the real world.”

“I suppose people are fed up of me saying it, but we keep making the same basic errors.

“A lot of teams are going to lose football matches, but the way we lose them is hard to take.

“We give so many teams a helping hand and to keep making the same mistakes – sometimes it keeps coming from the same places – you’ve got to sort that out.”

It won’t be any easier for Keane against West Brom who put their recent poor form behind them with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Everton at the weekend.

The Tractor Boys also have a lengthening injury list, with Connor Wickham, Gareth McAuley, Tom Eastman, Mark Kennedy and Luke Hyam out. Keane is also without Gianni Zuiverloon who is on-loan from the Baggies and cannot play, while Damien Delaney is suspended after getting sent-off against Norwich.

It could be a very long week for Ipswich and Roy Keane…
