Le Fondre double boosts his chances of golden boot success
Published:It’s hard to believe that Adam Le Fondre is still pulling on the red shirt of Rotherham despite becoming one of the most prolific strikers in the football league.
Since joining Rotherham in the summer of 2009, Adam Le Fondre has made 62 starts in League Two and has scored 42 goals at a ratio of 0.68 goals per game.
This is only bettered over the past two seasons in the Football League by Lee Hughes at Notts County, who has managed 34 goals in 48 starts at a ratio of 0.70 goals per game.
Hughes beat Le Fondre to the golden boot award in League Two last season by three goals, and Hughes’s tally of 30 played a huge part in taking Notts County to the League Two title.
Despite missing out on last season’s award, Le Fondre has obviously got every intention of winning it this season.
Le Fondre’s double against Oxford United last Saturday took the striker to 15 goals in his 16 league games and saw him cut to 4/5 in the League Two top goalscorer betting market.
His 15 goals are keeping Rotherham in contention at the top of the league, despite his side’s defence conceding 21 goals, the tenth most in League Two, leaving Rotherham at 10/1 to win the title.
Le Fondre has just 18 months left on his Rotherham contract and although initial discussions surrounding a new contract took place between the club and the player’s agent, Rotherham will be keen to tie the deal up before bidders tempt their prize asset away.
Norwich’s Simeon Jackson managed just 35 goals in 101 league appearances for Gillingham before he was snapped up by the Canaries and it seems just a matter of time before Le Fondre is snapped up.
