Mervyn King will prove he’s a Grand Slam contender

| 16.11.2010

Mervyn King is currently at 25/1 to snatch the Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts title from Phil Taylors grasp – but expect those darts odds to come crashing down if he continues his rich vein of form tonight.

The PDC Order of Merit No. 6 has swept aside Stacy Bromberg and Terry Jenkins in his opening two games to leave him on the brink of qualification from Group C.

He faces John Henderson who is on two points following a 5-2 win over Bromberg and a 5-2 reverse against Jenkins. With King in such fine form, it’s hard to look beyond him for this game at 3/10.

The second group C game this evening sees 11 times US Women’s champion Bromberg take on Jenkins. The American has no chance of qualification after losing her first two games, but has managed to claim three legs in the competition so far. Backing her is a very tempting 12/1, although everything is pointing to a Jenkins win at 1/66.

The final game of the evening at Wolverhampton Civic Hall sees England’s James Wade facing a must win game against Vincent van der Voort in Group D.

Whoever comes out on top in that clash will be though to the second round, and Wade is favourite in the Ladbrokes darts betting at 2/5. Van der Voort should not be written off though, and could be well worth a bet at 7/4, especially considering his 5-1 thumping of Justin Pipe in his last game.

Pipe will face Tony O’Shea in his final game with the Stockport man expected to sweep aside Pipe at 1/5 and make it a clean sweep of victories.
