Stoke vs Liverpool – Hodgson wants the win after Wigan stutter

Published:

After the impressive performance against Chelsea, Liverpool returned to their early season form in the draw with Wigan on Wednesday.

Stoke managed to put their recent refereeing troubles behind them as they fought to a well deserved 3-2 win over Birmingham in midweek, and Pulis’ side will be confident of upsetting Liverpool in search of consecutive home wins.

Match Odds

Stoke’s win against Birmingham moved them out of the relegation zone, and a win against Liverpool, they are priced at 11/4 to do so, would put them level on points with Roy Hodgson’s men.

Ryan Shawcross will return to the side after serving his one-match suspension and Stoke will need him after conceding two sloppy goals against Birmingham.

Liverpool were reliant on Fernando Torres once again on Wednesday and were outplayed by Wigan for much of the second half, but that hasn’t affected their Premier League betting odds of 1/1 to beat Stoke.

However, three of the four Premier League ties between the two clubs have ended in a draw and that is priced at 12/5.

Total Goals

With Stoke keeping just the one clean sheet in 13 games, and only scoring once in the league against Liverpool, this game is set-up for a 1-0 Liverpool win, priced at 6/1.

On Torres and Steven Gerrard have been involved in Liverpool’s four away goals this season, and despite Stoke’s poor clean sheet record, only the form of Fernando Torres may be the difference in this game and Torres is 4/5 to score any time.

With Liverpool’s poor scoring record, Stoke will hope Kenwyne Jones can break his six game goal drought – Jones is 9/4 to score any time and the 1-1 draw is priced at 11/2.

Unless Liverpool can find some support for Torres, this game looks destined to have under 2.5 goals and that is priced at 4/7.

Liverpool are 11/8 to keep a clean sheet. See the full Stoke vs Liverpool betting odds here.
