Top scorer Somma earns new deal at promotion pushing Leeds
Davide Somma has set his sights on firing Leeds towards the Premier League after agreeing a new contract at Elland Road.
Somma has scored six goals in 11 Championship appearances this season to be the club’s leading scorer and this form has earned him a new three-year deal.
Meanwhile, he has also been supported into 25/1 to be the top scorer in the Championship this season.
The contract extension is a major step for the frontman who arrived in England on a one-way plane ticket in 2009 to accept a trial with Leeds.
Somma said: “When I came here to try out, I never imagined I’d be in this position. I’ve worked hard and the club have acknowledged that.
“It’s a great club to be at. The aim for me is to get goals and to play a part in getting the club into the Premier League.”
Leeds are currently just outside of the Championship play-off places on goal difference, which is in no large part due to their quality in front of goal.
They have netted 28 games in their 16 games, which is just as well bearing in mind they have the worst defensive record in the Championship.
Leeds host Bristol City next and the match is likely to be high-scoring as the visitors have also struggled to keep clean sheets this season.
Simon Grayson’s team are 8/11 to beat Bristol City in what will be the first league meeting between the two since 1979.
Bristol City are 3/1 to beat Leeds and did win at Elland Road in this last league showdown 31 years ago.
A victory for Leeds would potentially lead them into the Championship play-off places and keep them on the shirttails of QPR and Cardiff in the automatic promotion positions.
