Blackpool v Liverpool – Revenge will be sweet for Hodgson

| 24.12.2010

There can’t have been many people who would have predicted that Blackpool and Liverpool would be level on points heading into their Boxing Day clash – but that’s exactly the situation they find themselves in.

However, the way they achieved their 22 point haul has been vastly different.

Liverpool have stalled and stuttered their way through the season, while Blackpool have gone for all out attack, winning against the likes of Newcastle, Stoke and Roy Hodgson’s men.

The Seasiders won their early season encounter at Anfield 2-1 thanks to goals from Charlie Adam and Luke Varney. And striker DJ Campbell sees no reason for them to curtail their attacking instincts now.

He said: “In the last 10 years of watching the Premier League I’ve not seen so many of the promoted and so-called smaller teams having a go at the big teams.

“I think that is because of us – we have gone and had a go. We went defensive at Chelsea and lost. That taught us a lesson. We knew it would be tough playing against world-class players but we have that belief that if we go for it, we will stay up”

Despite Liverpool’s rather indifferent start and their defeat to Blackpool, the Reds should still have too much for Ian Holloway’s side this time around.

Liverpool may have won just two of their last six Premier League games but the Reds have only failed to score once in their last nine league encounters.

With Blackpool playing so open, Liverpool should take full advantage – especially with Steven Gerrard set to return. Back the Reds to win at 4/6 and to win 2-1 at 7/1.

A £10 bet on Liverpool to win 3-2 pays out £250. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
