Chasing pack catching the runaway leaders in the Championship
Published:Leeds United replaced Cardiff City as the Championship’s second placed team thanks to their win over QPR on Saturday.
While only two Premier League fixtures managed to beat the weather, seven of the 11 planned Championship fixtures went ahead, and Simon Grayson’s Leeds United side came out as the winners of the weekend.
Just a month ago, the Championship was being touted as a two horse race between Cardiff and Queens Park Rangers, but the three points for Leeds yesterday saw them climb into second and cut to 10/1 for the Championship title.
QPR, who were odds-on to win the league just a fortnight ago are no back out to 5/4 and Cardiff, whose game with Burnley was postponed yesterday, have now slipped to third and are 7/2 to win the league title.
Swansea are level on points with Cardiff back in fourth position, and like Leeds, are 10/1 to win the Championship.
But QPR find themselves just three points ahead of Leeds at the top and there are just seven points separating QPR and Coventry in sixth, suggesting any of the top six can be confident of an automatic promotion push.
Coventry, despite sitting four points clear of seventh-placed Reading, are still as big as 40/1 to win the Championship, a huge price considering Ladbrokes are paying 1/5 odds for a top three place.
Norwich are in fifth thanks to their 2-1 win over Coventry on Saturday, and Paul Lambert’s side are 12/1 to win the Championship.
Weather permitting, we have just two more fixtures to go before the Championship heads into 2011, and the sight of the Championship table at the end of December will have a big bearing on how it will look come the end of the season.
