Greatest ever darts moments – Taylor throws two nine darters
After winning his 15th world title in January last year, many people were left wondering what was left for Phil Taylor to achieve in the sport.
He’d dominated the sport for over a decade, won over £1 million in prize money and had achieved seven nine dart finishes. What was left for him to do?
Well, just a few months later on 24th May, Taylor made history once more by becoming the first player to throw two nine darters in one game.
Playing against James Wade in the final of the Premier League Darts, he threw his first nine darter in the second leg to send the Wembley crowd into raptures. His second didn’t come until the 15th leg when he finished a perfect leg with a double 12.
Wade could only smile at the brilliance of Taylor who reeled away to celebrate, before eventually going on to win 10-8.
Taylor said: “I’m a very proud man. I’ve won every title in the PDC and I don’t think I can ever do better than this.
“Everything I’ve done for the last 30 years has all come together. It’s been my dream to do this.
“It’s absolutely incredible and possibly the greatest moment of my career.”
And also, perhaps, the greatest moment ever in darts…
