Lazio target Samaras to score goals to fire them to Serie A title

Lazio are hoping to boost their striking options in the January transfer window by bringing in Georgios Samaras from Celtic to help keep them in Serie A title contention.

The Greek striker is yet to agree new terms on a new contract with his present deal expiring at the end of the season, which means that the Scottish club could potentially lose him for nothing in the summer.

However, Celtic could still command a minimal fee for him in January and Lazio may be prepared to step in to provide some extra competition for Mauro Zarate and Sergio Floccari in attack.

Floccari is Lazio’s top Serie A scorer at present with five goals in 16 games, but they may need someone to be a bit more prolific if they harbour realistic hopes of winning the title.

Earlier in the campaign Lazio found themselves at the head of the table, but a failure to maintain this form has seen them become one of three teams who sit six points behind pace setters AC Milan.

A lack of goals has been their primary concern as they have only managed 21 goals so far, which is the lowest of all of the top five in the Serie A standings.

This has also resulted in their Serie A betting odds drifting to 20/1 and they will be keen to improve on a run which has seen them win just two of their last seven league games against Udinese next.

Lazio are 10/11 to win at home to Udinese and they have found the target in all of their last five games against the opposition.

However, they have only triumphed in two of their last seven home meetings with Udinese.
