Scottish duo looking good ahead of World Cup of Darts
Published:With the England team of Phil Taylor and James Wade in at 1/3 to win the inaugural World Cup of Darts, it’s easy to think that the tournament is already won.
However, there are plenty of other teams who are more than capable of upsetting the darts odds and winning the event for their country. And none more so than the Scottish duo of Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton who are 9/1 to win the event.
Both players have enjoyed very solid seasons on the PDC Tour and should have more than enough to come through their opening game against either Anastasia Dobromyslova and Roman Konchikov of Russia or Gibraltar’s Dylan Duo and Dyson Parody.
Anderson and Thornton were in very decent form during the Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton a fortnight ago. Thornton made it to the second round following victories over Colin Osborne, Dave Chisnall and world No.4 Simon Whitlock.
Anderson went one better, making the quarter-finals before eventually losing 16-15 in an extremely tight match against Wayne Jones.
The pair have represented Scotland before, in the 2009 Jocky Wilson Cup against England. The England team of Wade and Taylor may have recorded a comprehensive 6-0 victory, but the experience could prove invaluable for the Scots.
With Taylor struggling with his vision and Wade losing in the final of the Grand Slam of Darts, despite being 8-0 up against Scott Waites, now could be the time for the Scots to get their revenge.
