Taylor relaxed and confident after Sports Personality award

| 27.12.2010

Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is convinced his new relaxed attitude can help him win his 16th world title at the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

Taylor is the 10/11 favourite for the title and should easily come out on top in his second round game against Per Laursen at 1/33 this evening.

Despite his less than inspiring start to the tournament with a shaky 3-0 win over Gary Mawson, Taylor believes he can still add to his amazing 15 titles.

“I must admit I had been feeling the pressure,” said Taylor speaking to the Daily Mirror.

“The fans turn up expecting you to win every match, all the players raise their game because they want to beat you and I had been struggling with all the expectation.

“But finishing second in the Sports Personality of the Year has blown away all the doubts, all the cobwebs, all the question marks. I’ve been able to enjoy Christmas with the family.

“I didn’t force myself to wait until I’d hit six 180s and a nine-darter in practice before I sat down to turkey for dinner.

“And when I go back to Ally Pally I can play without fear, but don’t get me wrong – I’m going back there to beat Per and to win the tournament if I can.

“Does the tournament still mean as much to me was than any of title… it was the who voted me now as when I won my first world title in 1990? Too bloody right!”

A £10 bet on Taylor to beat Laursen 4-2 pays out £60. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
