Wigan v Stoke – In form Potters will inflict more pain on Martinez
Things have been going from bad to worse for Roberto Martinez over the past week.
First his side are demolished 3-1 by West Ham United to plunge them even further into the relegation mire, then they lose in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup to Arsenal and suffer a serious injury to a key player in the process.
Wigan’s 19-year-old winger Victor Moses is set to be out for three months after dislocating his shoulder at the Emirates and they are now at 6/4 to beat Stoke at home this weekend.
Moses joins a growing list of players who won’t be available for the visit of the Potters. Hugo Rodallega is unavailable for selection due to suspension, while fellow forward Franco Di Santo only has a slim chance of starting due to an ankle injury.
The Latics have now lost their last three games and only have one win in their last seven, a run that has seen them slip into the relegation places.
While Wigan have been struggling, Stoke have been flying. After a dreadful October and November that saw them lose five games on the bounce, Tony Pulis’ men have now gone four games without tasting defeat, recording three victories in that run.
They forced an excellent draw against in-form Manchester City at the weekend thanks to Matthew Etherington’s last minute strike, and should keep up their run of results against a depleted and uninspired Wigan side.
Backing Stoke to take all three points against Wigan – who have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight games – at a very tempting 9/5 looks to be well worth a bet.
