Bolton set for Stoke battle

Owen Coyle has demanded his players start living up to the high standards they set themselves at the start of the season – starting with a win against Stoke.

The Trotters are 5/2 in the Premier League betting to win away to Stoke this weekend and get claim their first victory of the new year, and Coyle knows a good start against Tony Pulis’ well-drilled side is crucial.

Speaking to the Bolton news, he said: “I’d prefer that we start the game really well on the front foot.

“More often than not, you’d struggle to come back against the kind of quality sides we face every weekend.

“We have to start on the front foot because, if we do anything less than that, we’ll struggle against a very good Stoke City side.

“The players know that themselves. Sometimes they need a little reminder but they are quite a conscientious bunch, and they know when they have dropped below a standard.”

However, a first win of the new year may have to wait. Bolton have won only one of their last ten games on the road and have found the net just once in their previous four.

Pulis’ side have hardly been prolific at home though, scoring just twice in their last three league games at the Britannia.

Everything is set for this to be a tight affair between two teams struggling to find any kind of consistency at the moment. With that in mind, backing the draw – currently at 23/10 in the Premier League betting – looks like a very tempting bet.
