Caroline Wozniacki vs Na Li – Number one’s nemesis to progress
Caroline Wozniacki may be the world number one, but it doesn’t guarantee her favouritism for her semi-final with Na Li.
Li is attempting to become the first Chinese player to win a Grand Slam, and the betting market believes the world number 11 has what it takes to go all the way.
At 8/11, some may think that Li offers little value in the betting for her match with Wozniacki considering there are 10 places separating the two in the world rankings, but Li is yet to drop a set and is looking seriously impressive.
Wozniacki is 1/1 to beat Li and has dropped just the one set when she had to fight back from a set down in her quarter-final with Francesca Schiavone, but the world number one’s search for her maiden Grand Slam title looks set to head to France.
The two have faced off three times in their careers and Li holds a 2-1 advantage over the Dane, including a straight sets victory in the fourth round of last year’s Australian Open.
A repeat of that straight sets victory for Li is priced at 2/1, but considering the form of both players, you can only imagine that this will be a tight match and Li is 11/4 to win the match 2-1.
In Sydney last year, Li had to come from a set down to beat Wozniacki 2-1 and at 5/1 to lose the first set yet win the match, Li looks a strong bet.
The hopes of China are resting on Li and the expectancy on her shoulders will be huge, even more so than the expectancy that Andy Murray carries, but the Chinese number one can cope and many would fancy her chances of beating Caroline Wozniacki in the final.
