Chelsea the favourite club of touted prospect Lukaku
Published:Chelsea desperately need goals if they are to make up seven points on Manchester United at the top of the Premier League and their chances of signing a new striker have been handed a boost by Romelu Lukaku.
It is 8/1 in the Premier League odds that Chelsea win the title and confidence appears to be improving after a 2-0 victory over Blackburn in their most recent game.
However, the lack of goals being scored by Didier Drogba remains a concern, as he has found the target just twice in 14 outings.
Anderlecht prospect Lukaku has been linked with a number of top European clubs in recent months, including Chelsea and Real Madrid, but he has indicated that a move to England over Spain is more likely.
The 17-year-old told Goal.com: “Chelsea is my favourite team. I have always said it and I have never hidden it, but it is not because Chelsea is my favourite team that I have to go there.
“With my qualities I think I can play in the Premier League. I’m very fast, I’m very strong and I work a lot. If I train with players with more quality I can be better than I am here. I want to improve.”
Lukaku has featured in 20 Belgian league games for Anderlecht this season and is easily the club’s top scorer at present with ten goals.
Losing five of their 11 games on their travels has been one of the reasons for Chelsea losing ground at the top of the Premier League, but victories in their next two fixtures, which both happen to be away from home, are needed if they are to close the gap.
These games are at Bolton and Sunderland, who have lost just two home games between them all season.
